We’re all excited about our Washington Party on February 20^th and are looking forward to seeing you there.  In conjunction with the event, we will be hosting a silent auction to benefit the Duval County 4-H Foundation.  The 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 1973, and all proceeds raised in the auction will be used to provide science and nutrition education in at-risk schools, and to help send children to a variety of camping and leadership programs throughout Florida and nationally.  So far, our silent auction will include:

• A certificate for a facial, microdermabrasion and $50 credit towards products at Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, donated by Doug Robins, ’65.
• Four hour stretch limo ride, donated by Susie’s Limo
• $100 gift certificate for Body Tech Mobile Massage and Spa
• A pair of season tickets for Player’s By The Sea Community Theater

• Alumni weekend gift certificates—buy one, get one admission free for Young Alumni and Alumni Weekends
• Holy Land Cruise for 2 on Celebrity’s Equinox, departing September 9, 2010, balcony room minimum, 13 nights.  Includes stops in Rome, Athens, Haifa, Jerusalem, and Alexandria.  Other dates and additional services available, priced accordingly.
• Holland America certificate for a 7 day Mexican or Caribbean cruise for 2, with a minimum outside stateroom.
• Western Caribbean 7 night cruise for 2 on Royal Caribbean’s Allure, a sister ship to the brand new Oasis.  Junior Suite Valentine’s Day cruise departing February 13, 2011, the inaugural season.  Other dates and additional services available, priced accordingly.
• Ski condo in Crested Butte, Colorado for 1 week.  Sleeps 6, 2 bedroom/2 bath, 50 yards off slope.  Not available during Christmas holidays, all other dates negotiable.  Donated by Dr. Charlotte Harris.

• Autographed biography of Heather Whitestone, Miss America 1995, donated by Mr. and Mrs. John McCallum, ’92.
• Freshwater pearl and lapis lazuli necklace, handmade in Afghanistan, donated by Mike Holifield, ’89.

First, for folks in Georgia, there’s a happy hour scheduled at Gnat’s Landing on  St. Simon’s Island on November 3rd.  If you live in the area, you should have received an invitation in the mail about this event.  If you didn’t receive an invite, but are interested in going, please contact Lee Holifield for more details.

A Habitat for Humanity building project is being planned for sometime in January.

March will bring another happy hour, this time in the Jacksonville Beaches area, with the option of staying after for dinner.

A Yield Party at a Jacksonville Suns baseball game is being planned for April 10, to celebrate the Suns and welcome potential local members of W&L’s class of 2014.  Look for more details closer to the event.

May will include a beer tasting at Bold City Brewery.

On August 14 there will be a party to welcome alumni to the chapter and to send off local students currently attending W&L.  The party will be at Billy and Chris Ball’s home.

Also pending is a golf outing.

Washington and Lee’s online community, Colonnade Connections offers many tools to the University’s alumni. Within the community, one will have access to:

• an alumni directory to find contact information for friends, former classmates, former professors, and more.
• a professional contacts directory to search for alumni contacts in specific job industries, professions, etc.
• a Chapter President directory to identify who is the lead contact person for each alumni chapter in the Washington and Lee Alumni Association.
• An area to submit and read class notes online.
• a record of your giving history to the University.
• an online form that allows you to make online gifts safely and securely.
• online event registration for alumni chapter events and campus events such as Alumni Weekend. Logging into Colonnade Connections before registering for events will save you the hassle of filling out your name and contact info for each registration page!
• the ability to quickly update your contact info with the University via the Update My Profile page.

Colonnade Connections’ chief objective is to maintain the connection between the University and its alumni as well as strengthen the bond among W&L graduates.

Logging into Colonnade Connections is simple even if you have not logged into the community in some time. If you have not logged into Colonnade Connections recently or possibly do not remember the last time you logged in, chances are your Colonnade Connections Username/Email Address is the email address that receives communication from the university. Your password for that account will be your date of birth in the format MMDDYYYY. For example, John Smith has not logged into the system in over a year. He receives email from the university to his gmail account so his Username/email address is that gmail address. John’s date of birth is February 18, 1980 so John’s login information is as follows:

Username/Email Address: johnsmith@gmail.com
Password: 02181980

It is that simple. However, if it is not that simple for you, don’t waste your time trying to figure out what to do, call the Alumni Office during business hours and have your information passed along. The number to call is 540.458.8469.
